Trump’s granddaughter undergoes another wrist surgery; 19-year-old Kai laments: “Life took an unexpected turn.”

According to the New York Post, Kai Trump—a first-year student at the University of Miami and member of its women’s golf team—revealed in an Instagram post on the 14th that she underwent surgery for a wrist injury sustained in September.

Kai is the daughter of Donald Trump Jr. and former model Vanessa Trump. In her post, she shared a photo of herself in a hospital bed at the Hospital for Special Surgery (HSS) in New York, with her injured arm bandaged and supported by a sling.

The 19-year-old noted that while she had hoped to avoid surgery, discussions with her family, coaches, and athletic training staff led her to conclude that this was the best decision for her long-term health and her golf career.

“The next few months certainly aren’t what I had planned, but life sometimes takes unexpected turns—and I’m choosing to approach this with patience and a great deal of determination,” she wrote.

Kai added that recovery will take time, but she feels fortunate to have a strong support system offering encouragement and reminding her that every challenge is an opportunity for growth. “Having the right people by your side makes all the difference, and I am so grateful for that,” she said.

Kai sustained the wrist injury during her first collegiate golf tournament. She expressed her gratitude to Dr. Carlson and the medical team at the Hospital for Special Surgery, as well as to her teammates, coaches, and family.

“Right now, my main focus is on recovering well and trusting the process,” she wrote. “I can’t wait to get back to the team and keep doing what I love. I’ll be back before you know it—stronger and even more grateful! Go Hurricanes!”

Kai did not specify how long her recovery is expected to take.

Just last week, she competed in a two-day, three-round golf tournament in Muncie, Indiana.
